Brandon Gottschall
Brandon Gottschall is a Partner in the firm’s Columbia, South Carolina office, where he established and leads Hubbard & Gottschall’s Insurance Coverage and Litigation Practice. He founded this practice following a decade with a long-established South Carolina defense firm and a three-year judicial clerkship under the Honorable Terry L. Wooten, Chief United States District Judge for the District of South Carolina. Through these experiences, Brandon developed extensive knowledge in state and federal litigation, including insurance declaratory judgment and bad faith actions, civil trials, appeals, and complex coverage disputes.
Brandon’s practice focuses on insurance coverage, litigation, and civil defense matters in a variety of forums, including South Carolina’s federal and state courts, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the South Carolina Administrative Law Court, and, by special appearance, North Carolina federal courts. In 2025, he testified before the South Carolina Senate Judiciary Committee regarding tort reform and is a designated Hearing Officer for the South Carolina Department of Education.
Before entering practice, Brandon earned his Juris Doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he served as an Articles Editor for the ABA Real Property, Trust & Estate Law Journal and held leadership roles in several student organizations. He remains engaged in the legal community as a speaker for industry organizations and has served on multiple law school panels and as an Honorary Faculty Member for the law school’s inaugural Legal Writing Academy.
Brandon has been recognized by his peers, including by selection to Super Lawyers Rising Stars each year since 2021 and to Greenville Business Magazine, Columbia Business Monthly, and Charleston Business Magazine’s 2025 Legal Elite.
A native of Greenville, South Carolina, Brandon is married to Erin Marie Gottschall. They have three children and are active members of Grace Presbyterian Church in Columbia, South Carolina.
