  • William Hubbard grew up in Greenwood, South Carolina, where he was homeschooled through high school. He then attended Clemson University for his undergraduate studies in agricultural engineering where he gained diverse experience as an intern at a grain export facility for Archer Daniels Midland at the port of Galveston, Texas. He also worked as a public works intern, mapping the storm water infrastructure of the City of Anderson, South Carolina; then as a dairy farm worker at LaMaster Dairy; and as a marketing intern for Capsugel, Inc.

    After graduation, William decided to pursue law school at the University of South Carolina. While in law school, he acquired a wide range of practical legal experience in insurance, corporate, and criminal law through his work with both large and small firms while tailoring his studies to estate planning, probate, and related legal topics.

    William now focuses on estate planning, probate and trust-related work. He strives for excellence in all his professional work, and he seeks to put client relationships and thoughtful planning at the center of his practice.

    William resides in Seneca, South Carolina, with his wife, Missy. He enjoys athletics, writing, reading, and collecting new additions for his growing personal library. He also produces "The Layman's Historian Podcast," a semi-regular series of podcast episodes covering ancient and medieval history.

  • Ashton Gottschall grew up in Greenville, South Carolina, where he graduated from Riverside High School. He attended the University of South Carolina Upstate for his undergraduate degree in political science. After graduation, Ashton moved to Columbia, SC, where he started his own small business and began his legal education at the University of South Carolina School of Law.

    While at USC Law, Ashton pursued leadership roles with several organizations, serving as Vice-President and President of the USC branch of the Federalist Society, Chair of the Christian Legal Society, and Articles Editor for the American Bar Association’s Real Property, Trust, and Estate Law Journal.

    Ashton concentrates his practice primarily in estate planning and serving local business owners and entrepreneurs as general counsel. He seeks to provide excellent service and advice for his clients and strives to serve and build strong relationships with the local community.

    Ashton and his wife, Lauren, live in Seneca with their son, Noah, and daughter, Adeline. Ashton enjoys hiking and camping with his family, working on cars (especially vintage air-cooled Volkswagens), reading, and various forms of hands-on projects.

  • Brandon R. Gottschall established the firm’s Columbia, South Carolina office, focusing his practice on insurance coverage and litigation. He has handled an extensive array of insurance matters and cases before South Carolina state trial courts, the South Carolina Court of Appeals and Supreme Court, South Carolina’s asbestos docket, South Carolina and North Carolina federal district courts, and the federal Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. Brandon focuses on insurance coverage and litigation issues, insurance coverage litigation, extra-contractual and bad faith litigation, and general civil litigation matters. 

    Brandon joined the firm following nearly a decade with a well-known insurance defense firm in South Carolina. Before entering private practice, Brandon also served a three year judicial clerkship under the Honorable Terry L. Wooten, Chief United States District Judge for the District of South Carolina. In these roles, Brandon developed experience in a range of federal issues, including insurance declaratory judgment and bad faith actions, civil trials, and general civil litigation, which experience has proved invaluable in his current practice.

    Brandon graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he served as an Articles Editor for the ABA Real Property, Trust & Estate Law Journal. Brandon also served in leadership positions for several law school organizations. Brandon has appeared as a speaker on several panels for the law school and as an Honorary Faculty Member for the school’s inaugural Legal Writing Academy. He remains active with several law school organizations today.

    Brandon is a native of Greenville, South Carolina and is married to Erin Marie Gottschall. They have three children and are active members at Grace Presbyterian Church in Columbia, South Carolina.

  • Will Jordan is an experienced litigator focusing his practice in the areas of business and commercial litigation, legal malpractice defense, employment, and insurance coverage litigation. He has experience representing attorneys and law firms in legal malpractice actions in both state and federal courts. Will also has experience defending employers against claims for violations of federal and state anti-discrimination laws and other employment related claims. Will’s litigation experience is extensive and varied, including tort, construction, banking, medical malpractice defense, and landlord/tenant disputes.

    Prior to joining Hubbard & Gottschall, Will served as an Assistant United States Attorney and Chief of the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in South Carolina. In that role, Will represented the United States in defensive and affirmative civil litigation, including claims involving medical malpractice and employment, and affirmative litigation and investigations under the False Claims Act.

    Before joining the U.S. Attorney‘s Office, Will was a member of a South Carolina boutique litigation firm, where he focused on legal malpractice defense and employment litigation. Will is the co-author of “The Law of Legal Malpractice in South Carolina,“ published through the South Carolina Bar.

    Will graduated from Davidson College in 2004 and the University of South Carolina School of Law, Magna Cum Laude, in 2007. While in law school, he served as an Associate Student Works Editor of the South Carolina Law Review, and was a member of the Order of Wig and Robe and the Order of the Coif.

    Will is a frequent speaker on the topic of mental health in the legal profession and has presented on the topic to groups across the country. Will previously served on the Lawyers Helping Lawyers Commission for the South Carolina Bar.

    Will lives in Columbia with his wife, Kennerly, and their four kids. He serves as an elder at Grace Presbyterian Church.

Hubbard & Gottschall's practice continues to expand with William “Will” Jordan joining our Columbia, South Carolina office on June 16, 2025. Will joins our insurance and litigation team with approximately 18 years of civil litigation experience. Most recently, Will served as the Chief of the Civil Division in the United States Attorneys’ Offices in South Carolina. Prior to that, Will practiced with two different civil litigation law firms in South Carolina. Will’s skills and experience will continue to expand and improve the services that we offer our clients. Our Columbia office continues to bring longstanding insurance and litigation experience, deep client relationships, and skilled attorneys and staff. Our firm's practice is state-wide and our office footprint encompasses both the bustling Upstate of South Carolina and the thriving and growing Midlands.
